What is a Traffic Dispatch Center?

Main Traffic Dispatch Center Support System

Traffic Dispatch Center (TDC) is a tool for Dispatchers that supports fleet management processes, communication with teams, and vehicle dispatch for transport tasks.

The TDC provides reliable communication with teams, handles notifications and communication events, and integrates with external systems to accelerate information flow. The system also allows real-time monitoring of vehicles and teams, enabling the Dispatcher to make informed decisions in critical moments within seconds.

Benefits

Invaluable tool for a dispatcher’s work

Functionalities of the dispatcher system

The dispatcher system is responsible for supporting the work of MPK dispatchers. The system enables the execution of the following tasks:

  • Handling incoming reports from vehicle operators (buses and trams)

  • Coordinating actions aimed at repairing breakdowns, vehicle malfunctions, and ensuring continuity of communication if a particular vehicle is taken out of service.

  • Coordinating actions aimed at repairing tramway traction faults and malfunctions (such as switches, signals, tracks, and the electrical grid).

  • Managing vehicles located outside the depots:
    • Browsing timetables
    • Tracking the current vehicle position on a GIS map
    • Locating a vehicle involved in an incident
    • Monitoring deviations from the timetable (delays and accelerations)
    • Accessing information related to the vehicle and its route
    • Defining exclusions and alternative routes
  • Clearance of traffic disruptions, including collisions and accidents.

    • As part of eliminating disruptions, the dispatcher coordinates the actions of MPK’s internal services, including Traffic Supervisors, Reserve Units, and Technical Emergency Services.
  • Carrying out tasks related to assigning two-way radios to vehicles.

  • Managing the process of conveying information about upcoming scheduled tasks and available breaks to drivers.

System Components

Communication and coordination in fleet management

The Dispatcher System enables dispatchers to effectively manage the vehicle fleet by providing real-time insights into their location, technical status, and the routes they are currently servicing. This allows for better route planning, rapid responses to breakdowns and traffic disruptions, and the minimization of delays, ultimately resulting in more efficient resource utilization and improved transportation service quality.
With real-time monitoring and coordination functions, the system enables rapid response to vehicle and infrastructure failures, such as streetcar traction and traffic lights. Dispatchers can quickly coordinate the appropriate repair services and provide the necessary support, minimizing downtime and disruption to public transportation.
The Dispatch System facilitates communication between dispatchers and drivers and other traffic teams. With the ability to send text messages, transmit information about route changes or scheduled work, communication is more organized and efficient. This contributes to smoother cooperation and better coordination of activities.
The system allows dispatchers to analyze data on delays, accelerations and schedule deviations. This makes it possible to optimize route planning, introduce alternative routes and respond to changing traffic conditions in real time. This translates into more precise and flexible traffic management and increased passenger satisfaction.
